If you don't know what kind of graphics card you have, here's how to find out. There are TWO (2) ways to check your graphics card type:

Method 1:

  1. Open your "Control Panel"
  2. Double-click on the "System" icon
  3. Select the "Hardware" tab (or the hardware section)
  4. Select the "Device Manager"
  5. From the list of devices, click on the "+" sign next to "Display Adapters" The item listed inside of "Display Adapters" is your graphics card. Double-click on it to see what card you have.
Need A New Graphics Card?: To find out how well your graphics card performs complete these Web3D Ready HARDWARE tests. If your computer passes all of the HARDWARE tests it's fast enough for this part of the class, otherwise you'll need a new graphics card -- contact your professor for details on how to get one.

Method 2:

  1. Right-click on your Windows desktop wallpaper
  2. Choose "Properties" from the popup menu that appears
  3. From the Properties dialog box choose the "Settings" tab
  4. From the Settings tab click on the "Advanced" button
  5. When you click on the Advanced button you'll see a number of options -- the "Adapter" tab contains details about the type of graphics card you have. Click on Adapter and look under "Adapter Type" to see what graphics card your computer is configured to use as the display. Note that it's possible for you to have a graphics card installed but still not have it configured for the display (that is, it may be installed but not active). In this case you may not see your graphics card initially here and will have to configure your display to use it!
